More on Microderm
Microdermabrasion is probably one of those cosmetic procedures you've heard of, but you don't know much about. Are you missing out? Absolutely! Microdermabrasion is an excellent way to refresh your skin, especially if you have sun damage, acne scars or fine lines. Dr. Davis offers microdermabrasion and would love to talk to you more about the procedure.
OK, So What Is It?
Microdermabrasion is a skin-rejuvenating procedure used to exfoliate and remove the superficial, outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells. In many cases, microdermabrasion is done with a device with a diamond tip or fine crystals. Exfoliated skin cells are often vacuumed away from the skin surface.
Why Do You Need It?
By exfoliating dead, dry and damaged skin, you can virtually erase scars, fine lines, areas of hyperpigmentation, clogged pores and even melasma, a condition that causes gray-brown patches to form on the face. This gives you an improved appearance and reduces the signs of aging. The skin is left smooth and refreshed.
Microdermabrasion can also be combined with other treatments, including chemical peels and skin-resurfacing laser treatments. An added benefit is that it can work on all skin types and tones. It doesn't cause scarring or changes to skin color.
What It Won't Treat
While microdermabrasion is excellent for a lot of conditions, there are some things it cannot treat. Microdermabrasion is not effective on large or significant scars, stretch marks, deep acne scars, or large wrinkles or creases.
Can You Do It at Home?
Some over-the-counter "microdermabrasion" creams make claims to improve skin quality, but nothing compares to the real thing. In-office microdermabrasion treatments can help provide a better final result for you.
How Long Until You See Results?
After your microdermabrasion procedure, your skin will peel, revealing fresh skin underneath. You should see improvements in skin quality within a few weeks of your procedure. In most cases, you'll want to have follow-up treatments to see significant improvement. We recommend at least six treatments with at least four to six weeks between sessions.
