What Are Your Sagging Brows Saying?

As we age, gravity can be unkind. Things start to sag that didn’t sag before, and as a result, we begin to age and look older. One of the things that can sag or droop is our eyebrows. Sagging eyebrows are a common condition that occurs in many people. Dr. Davis performs eyebrow lift surgeries to correct this condition and keep you looking young.

Like we mentioned, eyebrows droop because of gravity. Specifically, what happens is the muscle that holds the eyelids and eyebrows up in their proper position becomes strained or overworked. This allows the brow and eyelids to begin to slide down.

Eyebrows also droop because of some medical conditions. One such condition is ptosis of the upper eyelid, which partially paralyzes the levator muscle and causes the brow to droop. There are some medical conditions that can cause ptosis of the eyebrow that include tumors, stroke or other conditions that cause paralysis.

Drooping brows can make us look older, and make us feel self-conscious or embarrassed. Drooping brows may make you appear mad or upset to others, even though you’re not. They also cause wrinkles in the browline and around the eyes. Drooping brows can also impede your vision, making it hard and dangerous to drive.

A brow lift is a surgical option that lifts the brow up to a more natural position on the forehead. When the brow is lifted, strain on the skin is decreased and risk of lines and wrinkles is reduced. The brow lift procedure is an outpatient surgery. Scarring is minimal, and scars are often hidden in the hairline. Recovering from the procedure requires about a week of downtime, but you may be restricted from exercise or other physical activity to avoid straining or reopening your surgical wounds. Most patients experience some bruising and swelling, with the worst of it appearing around three to four days post-op.

The brow lift procedure is a popular procedure because it guarantees results. Results are long lasting in comparison to other procedures like injectables which require repeated applications. Most patients report significant improvement in their image, which in turn boosts their self esteem. Many patients combine the surgery with blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, to correct drooping eyelids. Candidates for the brow lift procedure should be in good health. If you have questions about the procedure or are wondering if you are a good candidate for a brow lift, call Dr. Davis today at 817.778.4444.
