Aging is an inevitable process of life. It’s what we all have to go through, and it comes with changes we often don’t fancy. Two of the most unwanted changes are wrinkles and facial lines that become more obvious over time. However, there are several ways to smooth the skin and make it glow like it used to.
As it turns out, Juvederm is one of the best non-surgical alternatives for most people. Are you wondering how Juvederm fillers work and how this non-invasive procedure can help restore volume to facial wrinkles? Keep reading!
How Does Juvederm Work?
Juvederm’s main active ingredient is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body. It’s more of a cushioning agent whose main purpose in the body is to maintain hydration.
The presence of hyaluronic acid in Juvederm is why the gel can plump up areas of the body that have lost their fullness, mainly as a result of aging, upon injection.
Juvederm is mostly used in restoring youthfulness and smoothness to the areas around the forehead, nose and mouth. Although the results are not permanent, it tends to outlast most of the other cosmetic procedures intended to achieve the same results.
Juvederm: Different Types
Juvederm comes in different types with varying benefits and unique features. Dr. Davis can help you make the best decision as the Juvederm formula you choose will greatly depend on what results you hope to achieve from the procedure.
Below are four of the most common Juvederm formulas:
Juvederm Voluma XC
This Juvederm formula is specially designed to be used on the mid-face, to enhance cheek volume, correct sagging or add contour around the chin. The results of Juvederm Voluma, in many cases, can still be evident up to 18 months after the procedure.
Juvederm Ultra XC
Juvederm Ultra works best on laugh lines or smile lines.
These lines show up in the tissue around the nasolabial folds, i.e. the tissues running from across the nose to the mouth. The formula is infused with lidocaine to make the procedure less painful and more comfortable.
Juvederm Ultra XC can also be used on other areas such as the lip lines, forehead and corners of the mouth, as well as for lip enhancement.
Juvederm Volbella XC
This is great for defining the contours around the mouth and restoring volume to the lips. A single treatment can last up to 12 months, and like Juvederm Ultra XC, it also contains lidocaine that makes the procedure more comfortable.
Juvederm Vollure XC
The Vollure formula can also provide results that can last as long as 18 months and is best used for both moderate and severe lines around the nasolabial folds, the marionette and around the mouth. It also contains lidocaine.
Juvederm: What to Expect
This is a non-invasive, non-surgical approach, and only a fine needle is used to administer the gel. There’s actually no need for additional anesthesia, although some people request topical anesthesia on the treatment area before proceeding for additional comfort.
Since it’s not a surgical procedure, recovery time is very minimal, but patients are advised to not touch the treatment areas for a few days after the treatment. There may be minor bruising or swelling around the treatment areas, but this will go away in no time.
Getting Juvederm injections is a great way to restore your youthfulness without undergoing surgery. The results are also obvious immediately after you get the treatment, and you won’t have to spend days waiting to fully recover.
