Do your eyes look droopy and tired, even when you’re not tired? If your eyes are saying something that you’re not feeling, it may be time to consider doing something about it. That something? An eyelid-lift procedure. Dr. Mayli Davis specializes in the eyelid-lift procedure, also known as blepharoplasty, and can have you looking alert and awesome in no time!

What Is an Eyelid-Lift?

An eyelid-lift is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the eyelids. Excess tissue typically accumulates on the eyelids as a result of genetics or aging. During the procedure, the excess tissue is surgically removed, and then the skin is stitched together to lift and create a natural crease.

Why Is Eyelid Surgery Performed?

As mentioned above, the eyelid-lift procedure is done to remove excess skin and fat that can cause your eyelids to look bulky or puffy or make your eyes look tired or older. The procedure is also performed when the excess tissue that forms on the eyelids blocks the vision.

The blepharoplasty procedure can also be used to treat the lower eyelids to correct sagging and reduce wrinkles.

Are You a Good Candidate, and How Do You Prepare?

Ideal candidates for eyelid surgery are in good health and have reasonable expectations for the procedure.

Before your eyelid-lift procedure, Dr. Davis will give you a thorough examination and talk about the benefits and risks. This is a chance for you to ask questions and go over preoperative and post-op instructions and information. We’ll also give you an idea of things you’ll need to purchase for your recovery, such as artificial tears, gauze and prescriptions.

What’s About Recovery?

The recovery time from the eyelid-lift procedure is typically short. You should expect bruising and swelling in the first two to three days after the procedure, but they fade quickly. Using a cold compress can help to reduce bruising and swelling around the eyes and face, and light exercise such as walking can help improve healing. But talk to Dr. Davis before heading back to the gym. Many eyelid-lift patients are back to their normal activities within 10 days of surgery.
