4 Signs of Aging Eyelids

Call Us Today: 817.778.4444

The eyes are the most noticeable feature of the face. Aging in the skin gives the appearance of being exhausted, dehydrated, or premature aging.

There are several signs to consider when it comes to natural aging and what to look for when it comes to the skin around your eyelids and face.

Fine Lines Around the Eyes

Whenever you squint, smile, laugh, or frown, the muscles around the eyes contract and move, making the skin move and pull. As we age and time goes by, simple facial expressions can create wrinkles in the skin, especially around the eyes.

Fine lines are far less noticeable compared to wrinkles and are usually the first signs of aging on your face.

Thinning Skin on Eyelids

The skin that surrounds your eyes is thinner and more delicate than that on the rest of your face. A loss of collagen means that wrinkles and fine lines appear around the eyes first! As collagen decreases, veins show through the skin more prominently, increasing the advent of dark circles.

Thin skin also fills more easily with fluid, which can lead to puffiness around the eyes. Avoid rubbing or putting too much pressure around this area to prevent fine lines from appearing.

Bags Under the Eyes

Under-eye bags are caused by loose skin around the eyes and pockets of fat that push through the lower eye muscle. The muscles in our lower eyelids weaken and store more fat as we age, making the fat bulge forward. Thus creating the appearance of the eye bag.

While they are not the most appealing, bags under the eyes are harmless in most circumstances.

Dark Spots and Skin Discoloration

Dark spots, or skin discoloration, are caused by sun exposure over a long period of time. The color of dark spots varies depending on skin tones, which can depend on if the spots will be overly visible/noticeable.

Dark spots also vary in size and can develop on any part of the body but are most common in areas often exposed to the sun, which in most cases is predominantly the face. It is recommended to wear SPF sunblock whenever you are expecting to experience sun exposure.
