Are you on the quest for the perfect eyebrow? You’re not alone. Many women across the country – and around the globe – are obsessed with achieving the perfect brow. Plucking, waxing, drawing them on, penciling them in and threading can get you close to the results you want, but have you thought about microblading? More women are seeking out microblading as a long-term option to get their best brows.

What Is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent type of eyebrow treatment. It helps to achieve the best brow shape for each particular type of face and offers a more personalized experience than methods that just remove hair.

During the microblading procedure, a thin layer of pigment is implanted using a very thin tool into the basal membrane, the membrane that separates the epidermis (outermost layer of the skin) from the dermis. The result looks like individually placed hairs that appear like natural brows.

Microblading is an excellent option for individuals who have thin or misshapen brows.

So, It’s a Tattoo?

No. It’s a more superficial treatment. Microblading lasts one to three years, depending on your skin type. So, like any other brow treatment, it will require upkeep.

So, Skin Type Matters?

Yes, skin type matters in microblading. Different skin types may impact how the pigment takes to the skin and how long it lasts.

Skin types that are not suitable for microblading include:

  • Oily skin or skin that produces excessive sebum
  • Broken capillaries
  • Blemishes and acne
  • Moles in the brow area
  • Peeling skin
  • Very dry skin

Additionally, individuals who are living with keratosis, a skin condition that causes black, brown or tan waxy-looking growths on the face, chest, back and shoulders, are also not good candidates for microblading. Keratosis is one of the most common noncancerous skin growths in older adults.

Individuals with seborrheic dermatitis are also not good candidates for microblading. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that can affect the scalp, nose, eyebrows, ears, eyelids and chest and causes red, scaly patches to form in these areas.
