Are you struggling with under eye bags? Many of us do. Late nights out, insomnia, dehydration, stress, hormonal changes, and even a bad diet can all cause your under eye to swell. We’ve all heard the tricks – cucumber slices, chilled tea bags, and even hemorrhoid cream, and many more home remedies have been touted as a cure-all for under eye bags and puffiness. But do they work? Dr. Davis takes a look at these popular treatments in this blog to see if they deliver or disappoint.
Cucumber slices. Cucumber slices have been forever promoted as the way to cure unwanted under eye bags. Cucumbers contain enzymes that can reduce swelling. Recommendations include chilling the cucumber for at least ten minutes and then placing under the eye for ten minutes. Cucumbers can reduce under eye swelling, but the process must be repeated several times each day to be effective.
Tea bags. Chilled green tea bags are another home remedy recommended to reduce bags and eye puffiness. Bags should be chilled for at least thirty minutes and then put under the eyes for fifteen minutes. Green has anti-irritant and anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce swelling. However, the results aren’t sustainable, and like cucumber slices, the process must be repeated several times until results are satisfactory.
Egg whites. Egg whites are another home remedy for under eye bags. Users are instructed to crack and separate eggs, whip the egg whites until stiff, add a dash of witch hazel to tighten skin and slather on until dry. Do this every day to reduce bags and tighten skin.
Hemorrhoid Cream. What? Yes, hemorrhoid cream. Models and other professionals supposedly swear by the stuff, because it reduces swelling and tightens skin. Slather it under your eyes, taking care to avoid getting it in your eyes because it can burn. You must also do this daily…plus you actually have to go buy hemorrhoid cream.
While these home remedies can bring some relief, their results are very temporary, they are messy to apply, and may be uncomfortable. Who can hang out for fifteen minutes several times a day with cucumber slices on their faces? If you’re looking to reduce under eye bags and swelling really, consider treating your under eye bags with a dermal filler containing hyaluronic acid, such as Juvederm or Restalyne.
