Does unwanted body or facial hair make you feel self-conscious? If you’re sick of shaving and dreading sweating it out this summer in a coverup, you don’t have to. Dr. Mayli Davis can help with laser hair removal options for both men and women and many skin types.

Nearly all American women opt to remove their hair regularly using a wide range of methods, including plucking, shaving, waxing and depilatory creams. All of these methods have their pros and cons. Here are some of the highlights to help you choose which method may work best for you:

Seven Ways to Stop Unwanted Hair

Shaving. Shaving is one of the oldest – and most common – methods of hair removal. Although popular and cost-effective, shaving has its cons, too. It can often leave skin bumpy and inflamed. Results are also short-lived compared to other methods.

Depilatory Creams. Some individuals opt for hair-removal creams to get longer-lasting smoothness compared to shaving. Depilatory creams dissolve hair at the follicle with chemicals. While results last longer, some individuals with sensitive skin experience irritation after using these products.

Threading. Threading is a very old technique for hair removal that originates in India. Threading involves plucking the hair out of the follicle using a very thin piece of thread. Threading is a great way to remove hair in small areas, such as the upper lip or eyebrows, but it can be incredibly time-consuming and painful for larger areas like the arms and back.

Waxing. Many women choose to wax to remove hair because it frequently lasts longer than shaving. But, for some individuals, waxing can be damaging in sensitive areas like the face and bikini line. It can also cause people with inflammatory conditions to have adverse reactions.

Sugaring. Sugaring is very similar to waxing, but instead of using wax to remove unwanted hair, it uses a solution made of sugar, honey and lemon juice as the “glue” to pull hair out. Sugaring is popular for those who want an all-natural hair-removal option.

Electrolysis. Electrolysis was once a favorite way to remove hair, but it is slowly becoming a thing of the past as new laser hair removal increases in popularity. Electrolysis works by zapping hairs through the follicle with an electrical current. If you’re thinking ouch, you’re right. It hurts!

Laser Hair Removal. Laser hair removal is increasingly popular with men and women across the country. Laser hair removal does require several sessions to get desired results, but it is a permanent solution to get rid of unwanted body hair. This saves you time, money, aggravation and irritation!
