What do you think the most significant beauty trends has been this year? Fillers? Faux freckles (thank you, Meghan Markle), face oils or micro needling? While all of these were popular in 2018, one thing beats them all: microblading for eyebrows. But, is it for everyone?
What Is Microblading?
Microblading is a tattoo beauty technique in which tiny needles are used to add permanent pigment to the skin of the eyebrows. The result is a fuller appearance for your brows.
Why Is Microblading Increasing in Popularity?
A lot of women are choosing to undergo the microblading procedures because they have eyebrow envy after all, who doesn’t want Cara Delevingne’s brows? Many women have also turned to microblading because they are simply tired of having to draw on their eyebrows every day and living in fear of smears or accidentally wiping half a brow away.
Is Microblading Right for Everyone?
Like any cosmetic procedure, some conditions apply. These conditions include your age, skin type and if you have any dermatological conditions or had previous permanent makeup that may impact the effectiveness of microblading and leave you with poor or unsightly results.
Age. As we age, our skin gets thinner. This means your skin will likely bleed easier. Bleeding after the procedure means the new pigment you receive during microblading also bleeds out.
Skin Type Plays a Role, Too. If your skin type is Fitzpatrick type 1 and you are a redhead with light eyes and very pale skin, your skin is less likely to tolerate microblading than other skin types. Thin skin generally bleeds after microblading, which means pigment will not be retained.
Dermatological Conditions that Can Affect the Microblading Procedure:
- Eczema
- Psoriasis
- Keratosis pilaris
- Chronic acne
- Rosacea
These conditions can cause the flaking of the skin or increased oil production. These complications can cause the pigment to produce uneven results. Also, if your skin is just naturally sensitive, you may have discomfort after microblading.
You Have Had Permanent Makeup. Individuals who have had permanent (tattooed) makeup and want to undergo microblading will need to have their old makeup lasered off for best results with their new microblading procedure.
