We all want our skin to be glowing and radiant but we certainly don’t want that glow to be a layer of oil making our skin feel and look wet and shiny. If you’ve ever rubbed your forehead and felt moisturize when you weren’t sweating or wet, you probably have oily skin. While skin that is oily versus dry does help keep skin moisturized which is great for preventing wrinkles, it can also cause acne.
Why is my skin oily?
Oily skin can actually be hereditary. For others, it can come about due to hormonal changes whether it’s the natural fluctuations of the teenage years, pregnancy or menopause, it can also be caused by hormonal changes due to medications.
The hormones responsible for oil production are called androgens. They tend to increase when the body goes through puberty, but also just before a woman’s monthly cycle, during pregnancy and again when a woman goes through menopause. It can be a bit of vicious cycle always trying to find a balance to keep skin at its sweet spot between oily and dry.
