You’ve changed your diet, incorporated regular exercise and even tried a few of those “As Seen on TV” products. And while you’re looking and feeling fit, no matter what you do, you can’t seem to get rid of that double chin. Dr. Davis hears this complaint from a number of her patients. The good news is there’s a treatment that can battle that unsightly bulge.
A new FDA-approved treatment called Kybella is helping people finally banish those double chins once and for all. Here’s what it’s all about:
How does Kybella work?
Kybella is a series of small injections that destroy fat cells. It specifically targets the fat below the chin, also known as submental fat. It’s identical to a chemical our bodies naturally produce known as deoxycholic acid which helps the body absorb fat.
How many rounds of treatment do you need?
Typically, most patients will need anywhere from 2-4 sessions to see noticeable results. At each session, your doctor will perform roughly 15-20 injections, though some patients may require up to 50 injections in one session. Each session should be scheduled about a month a part.
What’s the recovery time like and how long will the results last?
Unlike traditional and invasive cosmetic surgery like liposuction, on average, it takes two to three days to heal. Some patients may experience mild swelling, bruising, numbness, pain and firm areas around the injection sites. These symptoms should resolve on their own over time. The results with Kybella are permanent, however, significant weight gain can impact the end result.
Traditional cosmetic surgery has been a tried and true staple for years, but Kybella is likely to change the game. With a significantly shorter recovery time and non-invasive techniques, this treatment could “change the face” of cosmetic enhancements.
