Call Us Today: 817.778.4444

A chemical peel is a type of exfoliation facial that uses a chemical solution to remove the top layer of dead skin cells, revealing fresh, new skin underneath. Chemical peels are available in different strengths, from light to deep. The different types of chemical peel facials are classified by their depth, which is determined by the strength of the chemical solution used.

The most common types of chemical peel facials are light peels, medium peels, and deep peels. As the names suggest, light peels are the least aggressive, while deep peels are the most aggressive. Medium peels fall somewhere in between. So, which type of chemical peel is right for you? Let’s find out.

Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) Peels

An AHA peel is a type of chemical peel that uses a solution containing one or more Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the face. AHAs are naturally occurring acids that are derived from fruits and other plants.

AHA peels are often used to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. They can also help to diminish the appearance of acne scars and improve the overall texture and tone of the skin.

There are different types of AHA peels, and the strength of the peel will depend on the type and concentration of AHA used. AHA peels are available in a variety of formulations, including gels, lotions, and creams.

AHA peels are considered to be safe for most people, but it varies on the patient’s skin texture and sensitivity.

Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) Peels

Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) peels are a type of chemical peel that can be used to improve the appearance of the skin. BHA peels are often used to treat acne, wrinkles, and other skin imperfections.

BHA peels work by exfoliating the top layer of skin, revealing the brighter, smoother skin underneath. BHA peels can be done at home or in a professional setting. Professional BHA peels are usually more concentrated and may provide better results, but at-home BHA peels can be a good option for those with sensitive skin.

Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA) Peels

A polyhydroxy acid (PHA) peel is a type of chemical peel that uses a plant-based acid to exfoliate the skin. PHAs are a newer type of exfoliating acid that are gentler than traditional AHAs, making them a good choice for people with sensitive skin. PHA peels can be used to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, dull skin, and uneven skin tone.

PHA peels are usually done in a series of three to six treatments, spaced about four to six weeks apart. During a PHA peel, a peeled solution is applied to the skin, left on for a few minutes, and then removed. You may experience some mild redness and peel for a few days after the peel.
