Your eyes can say a lot about you – and they may be saying things you don’t want them to say. Stuff like, “You didn’t get enough sleep”, “You’re not feeling well”, or “You’re 10 years older than you actually are.” Wait, what? Can the eyes say all that? Yes! But, you can control their message, too. Here are nine steps to getting younger-looking eyes from Dr. Mayli Davis in Colleyville, Texas.
1. Cover Up. One of the best things you can do for your eyes and your eye health is to cover up. Look for sunglasses with large frames with the label “UV 400” that can block out harmful suns rays that can hurt your eyes. Also, we suggest that you put on a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. And, we recommend you put it on at least 30 minutes before you head outside.
2. Fight Radicals. Free radicals that is. We suggest using an eye cream with antioxidants that can fight free-radical damage caused by the sun’s damaging rays and environmental pollution. Look for products with green tea, or even use steeped green tea bags (cooled) on the eyes to help reduce puffiness and redness.
3. Use Retinol. One way you can keep your eyes looking young is by using eye creams or serums that contain retinol, a vitamin A derivative that is proven to stimulate collagen and reduce wrinkles. Some retinol products also contain vitamin K, which can help get rid of those pesky dark circles.
4. Lift Yourself Up. Sleep with your head elevated by tucking an extra pillow under your head at night. This can help prevent your eyes from getting puffy because of fluid settling under the skin around your eyes.
5. Tighten Up. Tighten the skin underneath your eyes with creams that can pull the skin tighter, giving you a great look without surgery. Creams that can make a difference have ingredients such as argireline, GABA or DMAE.
6. Get a Lift. Need a little help? Tighten the skin around your eyes with surgery. Eyelid-lift procedures can be done to treat loose skin of the lower eyelid and sagging skin of the upper eyelid that can pull your lids down, making you look older.
