Too Young for Botox?

The Academy of Plastic Surgeons reported that in 2015, 1.5 million patients who received Botox injections were in their 30s and 100,000 were in their twenties. The most common users of the popular neurotoxin are still those aged 40 to 54, but why the sudden increase in interest among millennial patients?

Some believe it may be due to the popularity among celebrities who openly share their secrets to beauty which often include dermal fillers and injections like Botox and Juvederm. In the past, it was taboo to speak of such things and people often tried to keep their beauty regimes private. But in this world of social media, people seem to no longer feel the need to hide what works for them and share that message to help others who are trying to achieve similar goals.

Some celebrities who have openly spoken about trying Botox include Brooke Shields, Courtney Cox, Kelly Ripa, Nicole Kidman, Linda Evangelista, Kim Kardashian and many others.

Another reason that could explain the boom in botox for the younger generation is the somewhat newfound belief that receiving injections periodically while young can help prevent wrinkles from ever occurring as you age. The idea is that the wrinkles are formed by muscle movement over time, so by getting injections before the wrinkles form, you prevent the muscles from causing them in the first place.

There doesn’t appear to be much research on the subject yet, but many patients believe it works and it makes sense in theory. The bottom line is, millennials and those close in age to them, no longer feel like they have to hide who they are or what they choose to do with their lives. That’s something we can get excited about because confidence and self-love is important to us here at Advanced Eyelid Surgery Center.
