By now we’ve all heard about the importance of protecting our skin from the sun’s harmful rays, but for years many of us played on the beach, floated around in the pool and spent significant time outdoors not knowing our skin was undergoing serious damage. Because of this, many of us now suffer from sun spots or age spots, patches of hyperpigmentation caused by repeated, unprotected exposure to the sun. They don’t go away over time either – in fact, they increase with age and show up most commonly on the face, chest and hands.

In the past, age spots were treated with creams, lotions and treatments like lasers and chemical peels. While these are still all great options to consider when trying to get rid of age spots, a new procedure called Cryocorrect has arrived to take treatment to the next level.

Cryocorrect is a non-invasive, in-office treatment that gently freezes age spots, sun spots and even skin tags from the body and face. Using an FDA-approved Cryocorrect PRECISIONäpen tool, a precise flow of carbon dioxide freezes the skin for five to eight seconds at a milder temperature than typical treatments that often use cryogens like liquid nitrogen. The carbon dioxide treatment is safe and effective and is more likely to leave surrounding skin undamaged. It’s also more comfortable for patients than traditional cryogen-based freezing treatments. The spots begin to lighten in the days following treatment and in just a few weeks are often gone completely.

In a six-week clinical study, 66 percent of subjects showed complete removal of dark spots by week six and 98 percent of participants showed improvement in dark spot intensity. In terms of size, 86 percent of participants showed improvement in size by six weeks, meaning the sun or age spots treated were noticeably and measurably smaller after the treatment. When it came to skin tags, 96 percent of participants saw a complete removal of the skin tags that were treated by week four in the study.
