Call Us Today: 817.778.4444

Since the first contact lenses became successful in 1888, those with vision problems have enjoyed the benefits of an alternative to glasses. However, placing a foreign object in your eye can be daunting, and you may often wonder if you’re doing it right or if you’re causing any damage to your eyes.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, better known as the CDC, up to 90% of contact wearers don’t follow proper care instructions. This can lead to small problems such as irritation or even big problems like an infection that can affect your vision and overall eye health.

Refreshing the Basics

Even though you probably have heard these before, sometimes it’s good to have a refresher on the basics. Here are some fundamentals for taking care of your eyes and lenses from the American Academy of Ophthalmology:

-Always wash hands thoroughly and dry them before handling contact lenses.

-Do not rinse contact lenses with water.

-Do not reuse old contact solution or ‘top off’ the contact solution in your case.

-To clean your lenses, rub them between your clean fingers, then rinse them with contact solution before soaking them.

Tips and Tricks

We’re all always looking for better or easier ways to do things. Like hacks like these tips and tricks for contact lenses can help make your daily life a little easier.

How to Tell is Your Lens is Inside Out?

Hold the lens up on your fingertip. If it forms a ‘U’ shape with flared edges, it’s inside out. The top edges shouldn’t flare out when it’s in the correct position.

Make-Up and Contacts

-Always apply your makeup first and then wash hands thoroughly before touching your contacts again.

-Try only to use non-allergenic make-up.

-Remove contacts before removing your makeup.

-Cream based products are less likely to get in your eyes and irritate them than powders.

-Don’t apply eyeliner on the inside of your eye line.

-Don’t share makeup and replace it frequently to avoid bacteria.
