Blue in the Name of Beauty

There are few things most of us won’t do in the name of beauty. How about turning your face blue? One chemical peel, called the Ogabi Blue Peel does just that.

Chemical peels are a great way to reduce or eliminate:

  • acne scars
  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • uneven pigmentation

They also rejuvenate the skin in incredible ways, making it possible to look years younger after just one office visit. There are three types of peels: light, medium and deep that vary in intensity and recovery time.

At Dallas area Advanced Eyelid Surgery Center, our medium peel is called the Obagi Blue Peel. It’s a trichloroacetic peel that uses Obagi blue dye to help assess the evenness and the depth of the application process. This helps us see which areas need extra layers of chemicals so we can get amazing results efficiently and safely.

The chemicals help remove the skin from the outer layer known as the epidermis and the uppermost layer of the middle layer of skin, known as the dermis. This allows us to remove or repair deeper wrinkles and uneven skin tone such as brown spots from the sun.

During the application, the solution is brushed onto the skin and left for a little while to work its magic. The blue dye rinses off in 24 to 48 hours followed by a 5 to 6-day healing process. By day 7-10 results are incredible. Some patients report feeling decades younger because skin looks and feels so incredibly flawless.

This medium level peel is a popular alternative to the deep peels that can often require weeks of recovery time. Some patients only require a few days before peeling is complete enough to go out and do their normal day to day activities, while some require 10-14 days. After the peel, it’s recommended to use sunscreen at least SPF 50 to protect the skin.
