Take a minute to read this blog to find out all of the details about this great process and then grab your phone to book your Thermage appointment!
Thermage is a procedure that uses a low radio frequency to deliver an electrical current through the skin. This current heats up the skin and the tissue under it. This heating breaks down the collagen in the skin’s layers. Heat significantly impacts collagen, and when heated its molecules shorten. This causes the skin to tighten. Another benefit of Thermage’s heating is that when collagen is broken down, dying cells signal the body to start making new collagen cells. This boost in cell production also tightens the skin – a benefit many patients can see long after their procedure. Collagen breakdown and additional cell production both increase blood flow, which brings vital nutrients and oxygen to the skin. This helps to make the skin look younger and fresh.
Thermage can be used to treat wrinkles around the eyes and on the face, and it is also successful as a resculpting procedure for cellulite in some areas like the thighs and upper arms.
Thermage is delivered via a small handheld device that heats the skin to about 140 degrees. Each pulse of Thermage is followed by a cooling period, to allow the skin to rest. No anesthesia is given for the procedure because it is important patients have the ability communicate if you are comfortable or not – so that the temperature of the device may be adjusted. The entire procedure takes about 45 minutes to one hour, depending on the areas being treated. Since the procedure is noninvasive, patients do not need a very long recovery period. After effects of the procedure include redness and swelling, but neither condition lasts very long.
