You wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and see a blemished face. It could be riddled with acne, wrinkles or other blemishes. You still have to face the day ahead, but the anxiety you feel over how you look gnaws at the back of your mind.
You could race out and buy foundation creams or other makeup products from your local drugstore. But the better answer could be more medically based.
Rejuvenate with Chemical Peels!
It might be as easy as going down to a dermatologist or other trained medical professional and getting that top layer of damaged skin peeled off. All you have to do is schedule an appointment and, before you know it, you will be ready to face the day with a smile.
While you might be concerned about acid being applied to your face, don’t fret. Chemical peels are a safe procedure that should be administered by a specially trained doctor, and you could be in the chair for as little as 30 minutes.
Dr. Mayli Davis is one of these trained doctors. During a chemical peel, she will apply an acid to your face that removes dead cells. Before the acid exfoliation is applied, your face will undergo a cleansing that will prep it for the procedure. Any sensitive areas of your face will have a cream applied and, once the skin is fully prepped, the doctor will brush your face with the acid.
We will also massage your face, working in the acid application, and apply creams that will make your skin look fresher, as well as neutralize the acid. Lastly, an SPF serum will be applied to your skin. Not too bad, right?
Before the Procedure
You will be advised to avoid putting on makeup the day of the chemical peel. This is to avoid bacteria that could cause an infection after the chemical peel.
After the Procedure
Once you exit the chair, you will be advised to avoid the following, in order to reduce infection and scarring:
- Going to the gym or sauna
- Activities that promote perspiration
- Swimming
- Direct sunlight
- Smoking
- Exfoliation products and applications, such as a salt scrub product
Your face might be red from the procedure. Also, your face might be dry and peel periodically throughout the recovery time.
What Level Is Your Face?
Depending on how blemished your face is, you might need a higher level of chemical peel procedure. Your treatment could take as little as one day, or it could be as long as four weeks. There are three levels of treatment, from the lowest application of chemical treatment to the highest and longest lasting.
Light Chemical Peel
If your facial skin isn’t too damaged, we might do a light chemical peel. With this peel, your face could have little to no peeling or redness! It could take up to a week for your skin to cease peeling.
Medium Chemical Peel
This level of chemical peel kicks it up a notch! This procedure is also known as a TCA peel, because of the trichloroacetic acid being applied to the top layer of your skin. If you have wrinkles, sun damage and need results that will last longer than a light chemical peel, this procedure might be for you. Peeling could last from a week to about 14 days.
Deep Peel
For a face that needs a profound revitalization, a deep peel might be your answer to a younger-looking face. This treatment gets down and dirty, treating the lower, dermal level of your skin with a chemical called phenol. A deep peel will keep your face looking gorgeous the longest out of all the treatments available. Your face should peel as long as 21 days.
