Having a toxic substance, known as botulism, injected into your face might seem daunting. But Botox has a number of benefits that could help you revitalize your face, especially if you’re self-conscious about your skin or have a number of wrinkles that are aging your face past its prime.

What Exactly Is Botox?

If you wish to rid your face of wrinkles and look youthful again, Botox might be the answer!

The procedure itself involves the injection of a toxin called botulinum via a small needle in your skin or muscles. The injected toxin keeps your muscles from contracting, smoothing out the wrinkles in your face.

What Should I Be Aware of Before Getting Botox?

Before getting the treatment, you should avoid alcohol, painkillers, multivitamins and certain foods, such as garlic and ginseng. Also, make sure you’re receiving the procedure from a board-certified professional.

Put Aside the Lager or Chardonnay

If you drink beer or wine, you will want to halt that indulgence at least 24 hours or up to a week before your Botox procedure. Alcohol thins your blood, meaning you would be more likely to bruise.

During the Procedure

Once you’ve decided to do away with your wrinkles, schedule an appointment with your doctor and keep in mind all the things you should avoid before your treatment.

During the procedure, your doctor will inject a needle into the area of treatment, usually the forehead or cheeks. Typically, an area will receive one to three injections, if not more.

You might experience a stinging or burning sensation during the procedure, but this is not the case for everyone. However, many people who undergo the treatment experience little to no discomfort during the procedure.

After the Procedure

You should begin to see results within one to two weeks of receiving the injection. Botox injections typically last between four and six months. Your doctor may ask you to squint often to help settle the treated area.

The Advantages of Botox

Not only does Botox dissipate those pesky wrinkles, but it can also help with excessive sweating and mitigate migraine-based symptoms such as sensitivity to light and nausea.

Also, if you suffer from eye twitching, Botox is known to relieve this pesky condition as well.

When Should I Get My Next Treatment?

Eventually you’ll start to notice the effects of your Botox treatment begin to wear off. When that happens and the treated area is losing its “youthful” appearance, you should schedule your next appointment ASAP.
