When summer was coming up, we talked about ways to prepare and take care of skin during those hot and humid months of the year. If you haven’t read it yet, find it here along with this post about Keeping Skin Safe in the Summer and bookmark it so you’re ready for next year. Now, it’s time to start thinking about winter!
Cold air and wind combined with the dry air that comes with heaters warming up rooms and businesses means skin can spend winter constantly red, itchy and irritated. Moisturizing is key in winter months, but read on for a few more tips to help protect your skin and give it the best winter it’s ever seen this year!
Tip 1: Use a Humidifier
For many people, the majority of time is spent in an office and at home. Invest in an affordable humidifier for both of these spaces where you spend so much time. It will help combat the effects of the dry air from the heating elements.
Tip 2: Turn Down the Temperature
It may seem tempting to take a steaming-hot shower when it’s cold out, but this can dry out skin even more. Taking a lukewarm shower is actually best. Same goes for the thermostat. Try keeping the temperature in your home or office around 70 degrees so it doesn’t dry the air out too much.
Tip 3: Change Up Your Skin Care Routine
Your skin care routine should be different in the summer and in the winter. In the winter, use harsh cleansers like toners and astrigents very sparingly. Use a thicker moisturizer before bed and make sure to keep lip balm handy at all times to keep lips from drying out.
